Is a DyeVL Photofacial Right for You?

Published April 23, 2026 · 3 min read · Prosper Health & Aesthetics

If you've spent years looking at brown spots, redness, broken capillaries, or rosacea-related flushing in the mirror — and you've assumed there's nothing to be done — there's actually a fast, effective treatment for exactly those concerns. It's called a DyeVL photofacial, and it's one of the most-loved laser treatments in our Sioux City aesthetics menu.

Here's what it is, who it's for, and what to expect.

What a DyeVL Photofacial Is

DyeVL is a type of intense pulsed light (IPL) treatment delivered through Alma's advanced laser platform. Unlike traditional IPL, DyeVL uses a specific dye-filtered wavelength range that's particularly effective for vascular concerns (redness, broken vessels, rosacea) while also addressing pigmentation (sun spots, age spots, brown discoloration).

It's a "two-for-one" treatment that targets both red and brown discoloration in one visit.

What It Treats

  • Sun spots and age spots
  • Diffuse facial redness
  • Rosacea-related flushing
  • Broken capillaries
  • Cherry angiomas
  • Vascular lesions
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Overall sun damage

It does not significantly improve fine lines or skin laxity — those are better addressed with collagen-stimulating treatments like microneedling, RF microneedling, or the Alma Hybrid laser.

What a Treatment Feels Like

The handpiece delivers brief pulses of light that feel like a quick rubber-band snap. Most patients tolerate it well without numbing. Treatments take 15 to 30 minutes for the face.

What to Expect Afterward

Brown spots typically darken slightly for a few days, then flake off naturally — looking like coffee grounds disappearing as your skin renews. Redness fades gradually over weeks. Most patients see meaningful improvement within 1 to 2 treatments and dramatic improvement after a series of 3 to 5.

Mild redness immediately after treatment usually resolves within hours. There's no real downtime — most patients return to normal activities the same day with sunscreen.

Who Is a Great Candidate

  • Patients with visible sun damage, brown spots, or "tan" appearing patches.
  • Patients with rosacea-related redness or flushing.
  • Patients with broken capillaries or visible facial vessels.
  • Patients with overall uneven skin tone.
  • Patients in their 30s, 40s, 50s, and beyond who want their skin to match how they feel.

Who Should Wait or Choose Differently

  • Patients with very dark skin tones (some IPL treatments aren't safe on Fitzpatrick skin types V-VI; we'll assess at consultation).
  • Patients with active tans or recent significant sun exposure.
  • Patients with active cold sores or skin infections in the treatment area.
  • Patients who are pregnant.

How Many Treatments

Most patients see best results with a series of 3 to 5 treatments spaced 4 weeks apart. Maintenance once or twice a year keeps results going.

What to Pair It With

DyeVL pairs beautifully with:

  • Microneedling or RF microneedling (for collagen and texture).
  • HydraFacial (between sessions for skin quality).
  • Sunscreen and quality skincare (a daily mineral sunscreen is non-negotiable after laser). See our full skin rejuvenation menu.
